You may be aware that the Cumberland American won the New England Little League Championship in Bristol, Connecticut this weekend and will be heading to the Little League World Series. The RPL Cumberland Office is especially excited about their success. This team of extremely talented young athletes are representing Cumberland well, embodying a spirit and determination that makes us proud to be members of their community.
Heart is what makes this team stand out. After starting the New England Championship game 3 runs behind, the Cumberland American showed discipline beyond their years, rallying to beat their Andover, Massachusetts counterparts 12-7.
After this Saturday win, the team headed to Williamsport, PA to await their Friday game against the winner from the West region—Ocean View, a group from Huntington Beach, California. “The boys are just thrilled to be there” according to our client, Janice Peluso, whose grandson is on the team. “They see this as a fairytale, a dream come true.” And the parents are just as excited. After a pancake breakfast provided by Navigant Credit Union, this supportive group will be escorted out of Rhode Island by 4 police departments as they caravan down to Pennsylvania for Friday’s game. All of the Cumberland American parents will attend to show their support.
Rhode Island has been represented in the Little League World Series five times since the organizations founding in 1947. The last group to make it to this level was also from Northern RI, a Lincoln team in 2004.
While it may “feel like Christmas” to the team, this opportunity is reflective of the dedication and hard work they’ve displayed over the season, and is definitely well deserved. Congratulations to “Our Boys of Summer” and Good Luck!

This Sunday, August 7th, Providence will be “rocked” by the inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon. The race starts and ends at the statehouse, and the course loops around the East Side and DownCity. But this isn’t your average half marathon. Combining athletics, music, and culture, bands will be stationed at every mile of this 13.1 mile course, entertaining runners and spectators alike as they tread down some of the most scenic, and historic, streets in Providence. A special treat awaits at the finish line, where the popular band Sugar Ray greets participants with their classic tunes. It has been reported that 10,000 or more runners have registered for the event.
The music every mile will be performed live by Providence bands, featuring a variety of music—from alternative to classic rock, punk, funk, and blues. Weather permitting, this is sure to be a perfect summer weekend. The race kicks off at 7:00AM and Sugar Ray will be performing at the Statehouse from 9:30AM to 11:00AM. More information can be obtained on the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon website.

Contrary to popular belief, we’re not just obsessed with Rhode Island. We’re also huge fans of the greater New England community, and every once in awhile, we like to promote a worthwhile event outside the boundaries of the Ocean State. With the weatherpeople predicting a great week to get outside, we need to mention the Brimfield Antiques Show. Now through July 17th, history lovers will flock to the rural (and beautiful) Brimfield, MA to enjoy the largest antiques show in New England. Since 1959, this event has attracted thousands to central Massachusetts, who are drawn by the exquisite collection of antiques set in a serene and picturesque atmosphere.
Originally started as a family event, the show has grown to over 6,000 dealers, who represent the best of the New England Community. But size isn’t the only thing that makes this show stand out. In line with its more humble beginnings, the event provides a highly personalized experience, which we think, makes for much more rewarding antiquing.
While Brimfield is located over an hour outside of Providence, we think it’s definitely worth the trip. You might just stumble across that perfect find for your home. More information can be obtained at the Brimfield Antiques Show website.
