Today is it – the last day of winter. And mother nature really made it seem like spring has already arrived. We sent our intrepid photographer out to capture what this day is all about.

On Saturday, May 2nd, RISD will host their Spring annual Alumni Art Sale. The annual event includes alumni artists throughout the country and a variety of media. Shop through house wares, prints, jewelry, photography and more!

Where: Outdoors on Benefit Street, Providence

What We Do

On Saturday, April 11th, RISD will be hosting their “What We Do” event. What We Do is a new student-run event in which the RISD Community shares Studio Work, Performances and just about everything else that you would expect to find at RISD.

As quoted on the What We Do blog: “Leading up to the day of the event, 8 site-specific “spaces” will be created by members of every department at RISD; majors paired up to encourage cross-departmental collaboration. The spaces that they build will house the day’s events creating a street-fair environment for the open sharing of how people at RISD spend their time and energy.”

“What We Do” also has a fantastic blog to cover the entire event. One of my favorite pieces on the blog is the “What I Do” video spots. Here’s one entitled: “What

The RISD Chace Center

Among our great neighbors on the East Side of Providence are Brown and RISD. Their contributions to the fine and performing arts make the East Side a culturally rich place to live.

Most recently at RISD, the Chace Center, which houses a student center, classroom and studio spaces, expansive exhibition space, as well as a bridge to the existing RISD Museum, opened two weeks ago. The Chace Center serves as a new entrance to the museum with an address of 20 North Main St. Designed by prominent architect, Jose Rafael Moneo, it works beautifully on the site where it is bordered by three historic buildings. The opening exhibit, a show of alumnus Dale Chihuly’s glass, is a fitting, as well as exciting, inaugural show. Chihuly is known for making large scale colorful pieces. His work is in many collections and public venues.

The RISD owned shop, RISDWORKS, moved into the Chace Center on the street level, enlivening that space as well as making the building appear active from the outside facade on South Main Street.
